The borage is an annual herb which comes from Syria, but thrives in Europe (mainly in the Mediterranean), North Africa and South America. The plant's name probably derives from the French bourrache meaning hairy or rough and describes its leaves. In modern herbal medicine, the borage is mainly used for kidney stones and rheumatism. The herb contains tannins, vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and essential oil. It acts as a expectorant, tonic, anti-inflammatory. The borage refreshes the adrenals after medical treatment with cortisone or steroids. The borage can be used as a tonic for adrenals for a long time and it promotes the production of adrenaline while stimulates the adrenal glands. It is an anti-inflammatory herb and the leaves and seeds enhance milk flow during the breastfeeding.
