    Description

    Olibanum is called the aromatic resin from the trunk of the tree Boswellia sacra that grows in Yemen of the Arabian peninsula and in Somalia (North Africa). When it is burned, it emits fragrance. So, it has been used since ancient times for worship but also for secular purposes as a key component of manufacturing of incense. It is mentioned in the Bible, in the Old Testament,in Exodus to the instructions of the Lord to Moses for preparing of incense. In the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament, olibanum is referred as a particularly valuable good. Also, it is referred to the Song of Solomon book with the myrrh as incense. Frankincense has been found in the tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamon. In burning of incense it is attributed contribution to spiritual uplift and is an integral part of religious and social ceremonies. The incensole acetate, a component of incense has anxiolytic and antidepressant effects in laboratory animals.
