    Description

    There are about 20 species soapwort in the family of Caryophyllaceae. It is a native plant in Southern Europe and Southwest Asia. It is a plant that rarely exceeds a height of 60cm. and can be grown in any soil. It is an ornamental plant because of its beautiful flowers. In modern herbal medicine, the soapwort is used both internally and externally to treat skin diseases. According to herbalists, the soapwort may combat diseases such as eczema and acne. Its action is due to the saponins which have anti-inflammatory properties. Soapwort is considered to increase the secretion of bile and reduce hair loss. Generally, the soapwort is considered as a body tonic.
